First Café & Educação addresses the role of families in IB education

Beacon held another edition of the Café & Education, aimed at all parents and guardians, with the theme “The Role of an IB Parent”. This event was led by the school’s three IB program coordinators: Maiara Terra, responsible for the PYP; Felipe Pregnolatto, MYP coordinator; and Karine Vairo, of DP. During the lecture, the aspects that permeate all programs were mapped, such as the student profile, investigation, conceptual learning, international mindset, the concept of student agency and voice, and community action.

In each topic presented, it was shown how the school develops each of these aspects using an investigative approach, and ideas were presented for families to actively contribute to enriching their children’s learning. In addition, the tools that could be used to follow the work carried out at Beacon with each age group were presented.

During the event, parents and guardians were invited to be active participants in the lecture, contributing with ideas about what the profile of a family in an IB school is. At the end of the presentation, they were invited to write new ideas and together build a document that will be shared with the entire school community.

This event was important not only to present the aspects of the IB program, but also to encourage families to actively participate in their children’s education. In addition, this exchange helps to strengthen the school-family partnership and build a more engaged and collaborative school community.

The IB school aims to educate students who are global citizens, prepared to face the challenges of the current world, and agents of change. To achieve this, it is important for parents and guardians to be engaged and contribute to this objective. The Café & Education is a way to encourage parental participation and show that everyone has an important role in this process.
