Giving continuity to the cycle of lectures for parents and kids, the TeenAge Talk brought this month Tiago Tamborini, psychologist specialized in children and teenagers.
The chosen theme was “The Pleasures and Risks of Adolescence”, which addressed the challenges of millennial parents and all its implications, since the adolescence is the time to try, discover, take risks, mix right and wrong, raise flags and self-affirmation. How is it possible to deal with all this?
In a casual talk filled with real examples, Tamborini led parents to reflect on how much they prevent their children from getting frustrated and how harmful this attitude is. He also talked about the phases that the teenage brain goes through when faced with drugs and other pleasures, thus making the audience understand the reason for certain behaviors.
Some tips were given by the psychologist, such as not denying that bad and illicit things are also pleasurable, not confusing paternity with friendship, knowing and investigating what your child does, thus letting him/her know.
The conversation with the students was more intimate. Easy to talk to, our teenagers felt respected and welcomed and accepted, since Tamborini listens, sees and understands this audience, making connections with them in a very natural way. The lecture ended with a “want some more” desire and lots of conversations in the school spaces and at lunchtime.
With actions like this one, Beacon expects that its educational role goes beyond its walls and positively impact the relationship between parents and children.
