Alumni Highlights Luisa Meneghesso ’24

I have always had a deep affection for school – a space for learning, exchanges, and encounters. I joined Beacon in 2018, the year the Campus opened. From the start, I was warmly welcomed and formed bonds that remain to this day.

I arrived with the dream of becoming a teacher, but it was in History, Geography, and Language classes that I discovered my passion for the Humanities. During the IB DP, I deepened this interest and decided to pursue International Relations, greatly influenced by my teachers and projects like MUN and social studies.

Extracurricular activities profoundly shaped my journey. In Year 10, a classmate and I created “Conexão Sem Fronteira,” a volunteer project sending letters to people in vulnerable situations. I also joined the Beacon MUN Secretariat, where I developed leadership and organizational skills.

Field trips were transformative. In the last year, we traveled to the Agreste region in Northeast Brazil to build cisterns and witness firsthand the realities different from our own. These experiences further strengthened our class bonds.

The farewell rituals of High School also left unforgettable memories and reinforced my connection to the school. Now, in 2025, I’m starting my studies at Leiden University in the Netherlands, a renowned institution in the Humanities – a field I discovered I loved at Beacon.

Today, as I wait for classes to begin, I’ve returned to school as a CAS intern. If I could give one piece of advice, it would be: cherish the people. The interactions with classmates, teachers, and staff are what you’ll miss the most.

Being part of the Beacon community means being surrounded by people who want to change the world – or at least their surroundings – with knowledge, dialogue, and empathy.
